Acupuncture is a core treatment within Traditional Chinese Medicine that restores the body's natural energy (Qi) flow by inserting ultra-thin needles into specific acupoints. Originating in China over 3,000 years ago, acupuncture stimulates the nervous system, reduces inflammation, and relieves pain by rebalancing Qi circulation through the body's meridian pathways. At Angel Holistic Acupuncture in Fairfax, VA, licensed acupuncturist Pinghe Liou uses this technique to treat conditions including chronic pain, migraines, anxiety, digestive disorders, and infertility. Each session is tailored to your specific condition based on Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis including pulse and tongue assessment.
Learn More Book NowChinese herbal medicine is a natural healing approach that uses carefully formulated combinations of plant, mineral, and animal-derived ingredients to restore balance in the body's systems. Unlike Western pharmaceuticals that target specific symptoms, Chinese herbal formulas address the underlying imbalance causing your condition. At Angel Holistic Acupuncture, Pinghe Liou diagnoses through pulse reading, tongue observation, and clinical assessment, then creates a custom herbal formula tailored to your individual needs. Formulas are available as traditional teas, convenient granule powders, herbal pills, or tinctures. The precise adjustment of ingredients to suit each patient is a hallmark of Traditional Chinese Medicine practice.
Learn More Book NowMoxibustion is a Traditional Chinese Medicine heat therapy that involves burning dried mugwort (Ai Ye) on or near specific acupuncture points on the skin. The therapeutic warmth penetrates to invigorate the flow of Qi, dispel cold and dampness, and strengthen the blood and immune system. Moxibustion is well-suited to conditions worsened by cold weather, including joint pain, arthritis, menstrual cramps, and digestive issues. At Angel Holistic Acupuncture, Pinghe Liou often combines moxibustion with acupuncture for enhanced results, as the warming properties complement the needle stimulation to promote faster healing and greater pain relief.
Learn More Book NowTui Na is a therapeutic Chinese medical massage technique that applies pressure to acupuncture points and meridian channels to restore balance and relieve disharmony in the body. Unlike Western massage which primarily targets muscles, Tui Na works on the body's energy system to unblock Qi stagnation and improve circulation. This technique is highly effective for musculoskeletal pain, tension headaches, sports injuries, and stress-related conditions. At Angel Holistic Acupuncture, Pinghe Liou combines Tui Na with acupuncture to produce more lasting treatment results, as the manual therapy helps reinforce the energy balance achieved through needle stimulation.

Most patients experience little to no pain during acupuncture treatment. Acupuncture needles are extremely thin, about the width of a human hair, and are very different from injection needles. You may feel a slight sensation when the needle is inserted, often described as a mild tingling or dull ache, which indicates the stimulation of Qi. Many patients find acupuncture relaxing, and some even fall asleep during treatment.

Traditional Chinese Medicine is a comprehensive medical system that has been practiced for over 3,000 years. TCM views the human body as an interconnected system where physical, emotional, and environmental factors all affect health. The core principle is maintaining the balance of Qi (life energy) flowing through meridian pathways in the body. When Qi is blocked or imbalanced, illness occurs. TCM treatments including acupuncture, herbal medicine, moxibustion, and Tui Na work together to restore this balance and activate the body's natural healing abilities.
